How Video Interviews Generate Sales by cronkite

Building Awareness and Solidifying Trust

Interview Selling Advantages and Tips:

1) Video interviews flip the sales psychology from first person "Me pitching to you " to third person "Host Interviewing Guest "

2) A professionally crafted interview includes Who-What-When-Where-Why - To frame your story and product.

3) Information first - sell later. Deliver content before selling your product. Ask questions that build trust through knowledge sharing.  Audiences are not dumb. They will figure out that you offer a product through the exchange.

4) Audiovisual sticks: People remember 80% of a compelling audiovisual story vs. 10% for written information.

5) People bond with faces before products.  Build yourself up as the image of your industry and you will bond with a higher percentage of your target market.  Sales will follow.

6) Interviews position you as an industry thought leader.  You become the expert, the authority.

7) Video builds trust through visual cues.  Subconsciously, your audience picks up subtle queues as you speak on camera.  They look for eye movement, body language, and this frames their opinion about your morals and standards as a leader in your field.  Use this to your advantage by projecting these queues over through interviews.

Some Suggestions:

I found these great tips from Start up Princess about getting yourself Interviewed on TV.

In her article she includes topics like: "Createing a Buzz, Networking to get Found, Know your stuff, Showcase Your Product and Business, Practice the Interview, Make It Known, Being Prepared and Arriving Early"  It's a good read.

Free or Pay Interviews?

Obviously free interviews offer a great opportunity for free publicity but this is not always easy to achieve.  Many companies elect to pay for interviews instead on business channels between stories, television "infomercials", on cable networks and on-line.  These formats can be very costly as they require a video production crew to produce the segments and incur costly airtime advertising costs.  This put's Paid advertising out of reach for small and medium sized companies.  But what about just using interviews in your own marketing?

Here is one affordable way to get yourself interviewed.

Skype is a technology that allows interviewers to invite guests into a show without all the costs and complexities of in-studio videography.  Have a look how this company offers affordable Skype Interviews for small and medium sized businesses. They have a plan for every budget.

Web Strategy

12 tips to consider before creating an on-line advertising campaign:

1. Link to product specific landing pages and not generic home pages

2. Highlight your unique selling proposition

3. Always promote  benefits versus features

4. Spark an emotional response in your audience using your words and images

5. Find a list of keywords that have medium high traffic but low competition

6. Target specifically to your audience demographic

7. Test a mixture of different advertising options

8. Use simple words that pop

9. Select images of interesting people and not Logo's

10. Post messages in combinations of three

11. Strip out any "fluff" and get to the point in a single sentence

12. Whatever you do - DON'T advertise freebies or you will convert few clicks into leads

We interviewed Howie Jacobson PhD, a pioneer of Google AdWords advertising, about his book Google AdWords for Dummies. We expected to be overwhelmed with "best technical tips and tactics" for getting clicks.  What we discovered was Doctor Jacobson's deep understanding of how Google advertising works. We were left with a much clearer unferstanding of  how to strategize with on-line advertising using the fundamentals of sales psychology.  This is anexcellent introduction to advertising on-line. A must watch before you venture into "pay per click" advertising.

When Cloud Based Software Services FAIL

Kersten's Ramblings

How Cloud Based software failed on one of the busiest newsletter days of the year.

Sour_ChimpFor those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept of "Cloud Computing" let me post a Wikipedia explanation:

"Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a metered service over a network (typically the Internet)."

Software as a service uses the Cloud as the medium to offer 'pay per use' online programs to subscribers on contract. Popular examples of Software as a service include Salesforce.com, Google Enterprise (Enhanced Gmail) and Mail-Chimp.

Don't get me wrong.  I support software as a service and Cloud computing.. but I also now realize that there are benefits and shortcomings to both software solutions.  Here is one example of how  Software as a Service solutions through Cloud computing can falter.

It's January 2nd. The biggest email campaign day of the year!  Many companies hit their lists today while everyone is freshly looking forward at 2012!

Here is a journal of what happened to me on Jan-2:

7:00 AM: Two e-Mail campaigns were created and released using Mail-Chimp.com email service notifying subscribers about upcoming events in 2012 ...
7:10 AM: Thousands of subscribers confirmed receiving my email.
7:30 AM: I verify my test emails and all the links work
9:00 AM:  I receive an email from one of my subscribers  "The links in the e-mail don't work"
11:00 AM: Further emails start to come in  "I have broken links!"
12:00 NOON: I check all my links and confirm that there is a problem with all the links in my e-mail.  The message on the sites  consistently return:

No URL found for this tracker ID

12:01 PM: I log into my account to test my original email and am greeted with:

Mail_Chimp_Error

12:30 PM I email Mail-chimp:

Their response:

Were_Here_To_Help

I am now paralized. Unable to do anything to rectify my situation. I am at the mercy of the service provider who directs me to a twitter update page... I now realize I am dealing with an:

EPIC FAIL!

Lesson Learned... No system is ever foolproof.  Software As A Service "AKA Cloud Software" Has it's down days too.

Rest assured, even though today was a disaster for me and many others who used Mail Chimp on January 2, I still am a strong supporter of the service as a viable option for mass mailing list distribution.

I'm just a little bit wiser now.
